Over 25 years experience in structural design and detailing of timber structures with expert knowledge of timber frame construction, product development, structural timber engineering and construction systems.

As Managing Director at Sylva, my role is necessarily varied. Structural engineering, design detailing, commercial decision-making and site supervision duties are all within scope in a typical day.

A co-opted member of British Standards Committee B525/5 responsible for structural timber design and also participate in several UKTFA Technical Committee working parties.

Author of numerous reports and assessments, but equally experienced in communication by means of interview or workshop presentation.

A driven and enthusiastic project and operations manager with comprehensive knowledge of the construction industry, particularly modern methods of construction and the self build sector.

With more than 10 years experience in marketing, sales, commercial and technical activities in the construction sector, I deliver projects on time and in full, to a very high level of quality and with exceptional customer engagement.

As Development Director at Sylva my role is diverse, encompassing everything from overall business activities to project and commercial management of specific consultancy commissions and site operations.

I am interested in new technology and look to maximise their benefits for Sylva customers, particularly in terms of communication and project reporting.

In addition to my work for Sylva I have served as a director for the National Self Build Association as well as being active in the Structural Timber Association’s Self Build and Commercial committees.

I am a Chartered Architectural Technologist with technical design expertise in both off-site manufacture and traditional on-site construction techniques. During my career I have undertaken roles at architectural practices and national house builders, but since the late '90s I have worked in senior design and R&D roles in the off-site manufacturing industry delivering construction system solutions for the residential, student accommodation and hotel sectors for both UK and overseas markets. I have been involved in diverse projects from traditionally built individual homes to large scale multi-storey student accommodation projects using volumetric modules.

My role is to help Sylva widen the scope of it's "in-house" capabilities to include architectural design as well as bringing my experience of off-site manufacturing and modern methods of construction to the wider business.

I have been in the construction industry for more than 30 years and timber frame for nearly 12.

As Construction Manager I do my best to deliver projects on time and to budget.

I become involved in a project from an early stage to ensure that once on site everything goes smoothly, this includes drafting crane plans and writing method statements as well as organising labour and plant.

As the Office Manager I am responsible for ensuring that the office runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible and that when someone is given an action to complete it does get completed.

I have nearly 20 years experience in sales, customer service, admin management/PA and HR roles from various sectors including telecommunications, medical, publishing and within the construction industry.

I hate poor customer service and I am always striving to ensure that we can do better.

17 years of experience within the timber construction industry with roles including estimating, design, engineering and consultancy for a number of timber frame and trussed rafter manufacturers and TRADA.

My role as a Senior Designer ultimately covers the design process for each assigned project from initial handover through to site installation. Typically this includes general project coordination, problem solving, ensuring deadlines for ordering, manufacture and drawing issue are adhered to and providing support for the site during the build process as required.

I have an interest in the use and detailing of modern construction materials/methods but also in the refurbishment of older structures where the retention and repair of existing material is a key factor.

I have spent my working life in businesses with close links to the building industry, from a small timber yard to estimating purpose-made joinery for Architects and developers.

I have worked as a roof truss designer and estimator for 10 years and a floor joist designer and estimator for 3 years.

I have spent the last 15 years as a Timber Frame estimator, five years of which I served as estimating manager for one of the UK’s largest timber frame manufacturers.

My role at Sylva is not just to estimate the cost of timber frame projects but to ensure that the client receives the quality project that they envisioned for themselves at a reasonable cost, one that ensures the continued growth of our business and a growing list of satisfied clients.

I have also worked on many PR events and photo shoots including Vogue and Lady Taverners. In my career I am very proud of being part of the conception of the ‘Look Good, Feel Better’ program at the Royal Free Hospital, supporting women with cancer.

As Marketing Manager, my primary role is to ensure that customers understand the full range of services and solutions which we can offer for their projects.

Working in the construction industry for nearly three decades I have accumulated a diverse range of skills and experience in Residential and Commercial Projects, in the UK, South Africa and France.

I started on site as an artisan and have progressed to Construction Management through a practical skills based trajectory which has involved Site and Man Management, Client and Architect liaison, coordination and management of Sub Contractors, Suppliers and Principal Contractors. I have good Man Management, Motivation and Problem Solving skills.

Residential build projects include renovation, restoration and extensions to grade 2 listed Manor Houses, Barns and buildings of Architectural note and New Builds of traditional and modern timber framing. Civil Construction Projects include work on Schools, Hospitals, Offices, Light Industrial and Retail Parks and Conference Centres.
